ACNM News Release: ACNM Elects New Officers

ELECTS NEW OFFICERS
Providence Midwife Selected to Represent East Coast

For Immediate Release -- February 29, 2008

SILVER SPRING, MD – Linda Nanni, CNM, MSN of Providence, RI was elected as the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM) Regional Representative for Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and non-U.S. locations. As Regional Representative, she will serve as the liaison between the nearly 700 East Coast members and the organization's Board of Directors.

For 11 years, Nanni has been a shareholder, managing board member and director of nurse-midwifery services at Women's Care, Inc. in Providence.

As the regional representative, Nanni plans to promote midwifery care within our health care system. “Midwifery care has proven to show excellent outcomes, be cost-effective and is satisfying to consumers,” Nanni says. “As a clinician who has worked tirelessly for the last 24 years to provide full-scope midwifery services to women of all ages, I hope to bring a practical perspective to the board to help promote the practice of midwifery within this modern-day health care environment.”

Nanni has been involved with ACNM locally as a chapter chair and regionally to develop a regional peer review mechanism in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. She worked diligently on prescriptive privileges and third party reimbursement for CNMs in Rhode Island, where she serves on the Advisory Council for Midwifery and advises the Director of Health on midwifery issues.

Nanni received her bachelor’s of science in nursing from Georgetown University in 1980 and her master’s of science in nursing from Georgetown in 1984.

Nanni will be inducted to her three-year term at the ACNM 53rd Annual Meeting in Boston, May 23-29, 2008.
