With women, for a lifetimeTM Commendation
Jackson Memorial Health System
On January 25, 2001, ACNM presented the first "With women, for a lifetime" Golden Commendation to recognize innovative and compassionate midwifery care, expanding access to midwifery care, education of midwifery students, and putting the heart of midwifery into practice to Jackson Memorial Health System in Miami, Florida. The award was presented at the Hyatt Regency in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at a semi-formal dinner celebrating the 25th Anniversary of nurse-midwifery service at Jackson Memorial. The nurse-midwives at Jackson currently attend 25 percent of births in the health system. Director of women's health service, Anne Scupholme, CNM, was honored and recognized for her leadership and vision that led the service through many changes including the first public hospital birth center and multiple practice sites. Jeanne Gottlieb, CNM, Chapter III-FL4 Chair and director of the nurse-midwifery program at the University of Miami, presented a plaque expressing gratitude for the service's long term commitment to precepting nurse?midwifery students. The celebration included recognizing Dr. Allan McLeod for 25 years of collaboration and support as consulting physician to the practice. The following day, activities continued with a continuing education offering and a chapter meeting attended by Claire Westdahl, CNM, MS, MPH, Region III representive to the ACNM board and Ceclia Jevitt, CNM, legislative liaison in Florida.
