This site was developed at University of Minnesota. On this site
evidence-based nursing (EBN) is described. Even though this site has
limited information, it is a nice resource for references on EBN models
and qualitative research. The site contains a table with factors for
judging articles. Lastly, this site has several links to other EBN
sites and journals.
This site was developed by the University of Washington. There are
special areas for nursing, pharmacy, clinical specialties and patients.
This site contains not only information on evidence-based practice,
basic statistics, and how to read papers, but also an EBP toolbox,
practice videos, tools to construct clinical questions, evidence
calculators and glossary. There are links to Pub Med and several other
databases (user name and password required for some of them).
This site contains a tutorial developed by Mark Ebell, MD, MS on
Information Mastery, Evidence-Based Medicine and critical appraisal of
medicine. The site also includes information on how to read articles
about diagnosis, therapy, prognosis, and meta-analysis and how to ask
clinical questions.
The Center for Evidence-Based Medicine resides in the University
Department of Psychiatry at Warneford Hospital in Oxford, England. The
Centre's aim is to promote evidence-based health care and provide
support and resources to interested individuals. The Centre's website
contains a description of evidence-based practice, a glossary of
research terms, advantages and disadvantages of study designs and list
of conferences for teachers and developers of evidence-based
healthcare. This website also contains information on how to find EB
research and how to evaluate the studies. Downloads for critical
appraisal tools and power point presentations are available on the
website.
The Joanna Briggs Institute was formed by the Royal Adelaide
Hospital and the University of Adelaide after the recognition of a need
for a collaborative approach for the evaluation of evidence derived
from a diverse range of sources, and then the translation, transfer and
utilization of the "best available" evidence into health care practice.
These sources of evidence included experience, expertise and all forms
of rigorous research. This center conducts systematic reviews and
analyses of research literature. Information sheets are developed based
on the reviews of literature. The center also designs, promotes and
conducts courses in evidence-based nursing and midwifery, and initiates
research when indicated. The website contains best practice information
sheets, clinical information databases and an excellent list of related
links.
The University of Sheffield School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR)
ScHARR is based in England. ScHARR's website provides portals,
gateways and links to information concerning evidence-based medicine on
the Internet. Additionally, online courses and guidelines are provided
on the website.
Bandolier is a print and Internet healthcare journal. Advice on
treatments and diseases for healthcare providers and consumers are
based on evidence-based medicine. Bandolier does receive sponsorships
from companies, but retains full control of the content of the
articles/essays. Click on 'Alphabetical Listing' or 'Knowledge Library'
to access articles/essays on women's Health. Users can sign up to
receive a monthly email with alerts about new information.
The Centre for Reviews and Dissemination reviews research concerning
interventions used in healthcare and social care, and maintains
databases containing quality reviews. The Centre disseminates research
findings from systematic reviews in reports and bulletins.
The purpose of this organization is to help develop and study
education interventions to support improvements in making
evidence-based decisions. This Canadian center provides information on
how to optimally use evidence-based information for making management
decisions. There are several articles that guide the reader on how to
use evidence-based research to make clinical decisions. JAMA's User
Guide to evidence-based medicine is available at this site.
Teaching and learning resources on evidence based practice (EBP) are
provided. Sections on asking questions, critical appraisal for EBP,
finding evidence, implementing and evaluation change, EBP references
and useful links are provided.
