Each one of the following four alternatives may be used once during the five year cycle in lieu of a portion of the CEUs required under Option 2 of the CCA program. These activities do not meet CEU criteria as outlined by the International Association of Continuing Education and Training (IACET), therefore CEUs are not granted. ACNM's CCA Section will recognize these activities in lieu of a portion of ACNM approved CEUs.
If an individual gives evidence of completion of a formal university or college course directly related to the practice of nurse-midwifery, she or he may receive recognition in lieu of ten contact hours, or 1.0 ACNM CEU. A transcript is required for documentation.
If an individual gives evidence of publication as a primary author of a nurse-midwifery related clinical topic in a refereed journal, she or he may receive recognition in lieu of ten contact hours, or 1.0 ACNM CEU. A photocopy of the published article taken from the journal pages is required for documentation.
If an individual performs a formal presentation on nurse-midwifery related clinical topics that has ACNM CEU approval, she or he may receive recognition in lieu of double the number of contact hours/CEUs that are awarded to participants. This number is not to exceed ten contact hours, or 1.0 ACNM CEU. A copy of the program brochure is required for documentation.
If an individual who serves as a reviewer in a nurse-midwifery peer review process, she or he may receive recognition in lieu of ten contact hours, or 1.0 ACNM CEU. A letter from the chapter or group describing the peer review process is required for documentation.
