Scam Alert - Midwives Targeted

Over the past month three CNMs have contacted the ACNM office after receiving hand written solicitations from people in Africa claiming to be student nurses or student midwives asking for money in order to complete their education. Please be aware that in no way does ACNM endorse these requests nor does ACNM have anything to do with your having received the solicitation. ACNM is extremely careful with your personal contact information. Our Membership Directory is only accessible to other ACNM members and our public online practice locator, Find A Midwife, only contains practice contact information and does not provide individual member’s names.

Mail & E-mail scam operations originating from Africa have become huge business over the past 10 years, employing thousands of people and costing the victims millions of dollars. In the technology age all it takes is an internet connection and some diligence and contact information can be pieced together for victims in your target group. Don’t be a victim. If you happen to receive such a letter, we urge you to ignore it.
